WHY Day Without An Immigrant?

A Day Without Immigrants shows Oregon that immigrants are at the heart of our community.

  • For 24 hours, we are asking immigrants, their loved ones and allies to skip work, close businesses, stay out of school and avoid shopping to demonstrate our collective economic power.

  • Oregon can't run without us.

We keep America running.

  • Immigrants are vital members of our communities, making up 19% of the US workforce.

  • From health care to education, from construction to farm work, every industry depends on immigrants to keep our economy running.

  • Simply put, our economy would grind to a halt without our labor, and we are already seeing the impacts of ICE and the Trump administration's unlawful actions across industries.

  • Immigrants, including farm workers, are afraid to come to work, leaving hundreds of businesses without the staff they need to stay open and serve the community.

We reject the cruelty of the Trump administration's attacks.

  • ICE continues to use secret police-style tactics to incite fear and wreak havoc, all to enforce a baseless anti-immigrant agenda.

  • The rates of people kidnapped by ICE have increased without any evidence of criminal activity.

  • These actions don’t make us safer. They strike fear and uncertainty into the hearts of our communities in an attempt to silence and scare us.

We will continue to stand up for the dignity and freedom of all immigrants.

  • Immigrants are our neighbors, our coworkers, our friends, and our loved ones.

  • We demand an end to the Trump administration's indiscriminate attacks on our neighborhoods.

  • PCUN will work with our partners to defend the rights of all immigrants to access legal support and the resources they need to keep themselves and their families safe.

  • We won't rest until everyone is returned to their families.
